The name ALT comes from the initials of the surnames of the three founders, Gianfranco \u003cstrong\u003eAlbertini\u003c\/strong\u003e, Dino \u003cstrong\u003eLunetta\u003c\/strong\u003e, and Ettore \u003cstrong\u003eTodesco.\u003c\/strong\u003e They are best known for their production of art glass paperweights, made with colourful floral murrine canes, a style known as millefiori (thousand flowers). Gianfranco Albertini left to form La Fenice in 1976, but the name ALT was kept. The ALT furnace closed in 1999 or early 2000's. Shortly before closing or just after, two of the main glassmakers possibly together with a third person, founded the 3 Fiori furnace, which made very similar if not identical products. Items sold by 3 Fiori themselves were always signed \/ marked to the base. Their products that were sold via third party merchants were unsigned. 3 Fiori closed in 2005. Two of the founders from 3 Fiori then founded The Millefiori Factory, again making very similar products.
