Its immediate popularity made it a standard blue printed design for most tableware manufacturers during the 19th Century. Although the motifs in the design were broadly Chinese in style, the whole concept was entirely European. Very unusual in the colourful style depicted here. This is the sort of item that will complete an advanced collection - this is one of the first examples ever sighted by us

c.1925

Approx 5cms (2") tall
Approx 6.5cms (2 2/3") wide

In excellent condition
Gilt trim is excellent
GUARANTEED free from damage and repair

About Royal Doulton Miniatures | their significance in the collecting world
While miniatures are very cute little examples of Art Pottery, exotic glazes or series ware - that allow a collector to build a superb collection and house it in a very small space, they actually have an interesting history. In the early 20th Century - before Air Mail services were even an option - these tiny miniatures were actually marketed by Royal Doulton for customers and businesses to send to friends, family or business acquaintances as gifts - as they could be shipped easily via Sea Freight in the era. Many of these tiny pieces were marketed as gifts that could be sent in specially packed wooden "crates" that Royal Doulton sold them in as a Christmas or special occassion gift - we have seen literature that even allowed for a message on the box! There is much that modern day marketing could learn from a company such as Royal Doulton - and these pieces were made for some some 100 years ago! A word for the novice collector - not all small Royal Doulton items are to be considered a true "miniature" - strictly speaking a miniature will be in a miniature shape and under 7.5cms (3 inches) tall

https://roundaboutantiques.com.au/products/royal-doulton-willow-pattern-story-miniature-tyg-loving-cup-colourful
