Pair late Victorian Spelter figures | The Cavaliers

Product Description
Pair late Victorian Spelter figures
Cavaliers

c.1890

Spelter is an alloy of lead and tin that ages to resemble bronze, but is softer and has a lower melting point. It is generally finished in a style to represent antique bronze - which oxidises as it ages [which is what has happened, here].

Both figures have removeable "weapons" - which makes it a little easier for shipping, but bear in mind these are very heavy items. They are fixed to a black enamelled turned pine base.

Cavalier with Helmet | approx 54cms (21 1/4") tall to top of weapon
Cavalier with Hat | approx 53cms (20 3/4") tall

Both are in excellent, patinated condition
There has been a minor resin repair to the weapon that the Cavalier with Helmet holds - but if I didn't point it out to you, it wouldn't be noticed
One pine turned base has a small growth line timber split at rear - not detracting
Over time the spelter finish does patinate and pimple with age
