Uranium glass is glassware created by adding uranium (usually oxide diuranate) to the molten glass mixture, typically resulting in a yellow or green color that glows brightly under ultraviolet (UV) light. Popularly known as Vaseline glass, it was produced in high volume from the 1830s until World War II and again after 1959.
Uranium glass is generally safe to own and handle. The radioactivity is low, typically emitting beta and gamma radiation within safe levels for collectors, though it is advised not to store it in direct contact with the body for long periods or eat from damaged (chipped) pieces.
